Your Oxfordshire Wedding Photographer: Oxford, the Cotswolds and Beyond

One of the questions I get asked surprisingly often is: do you cover our area?

The short answer is probably yes.

I’m an Oxfordshire wedding photographer based just outside Oxford, and most of my weddings happen somewhere between the city, the surrounding villages and the edge of the Cotswolds. But I travel considerably further when the wedding is right.

So, rather than giving you a vague “Oxfordshire and beyond”, here’s what that actually means.

Weddings in Oxford

Oxford is home turf.

I photograph weddings throughout the city, from Oxford Town Hall and the colleges to small ceremonies followed by pubs, restaurants, punts and slightly chaotic walks through the city centre.

And Oxford weddings have their own peculiar rhythm.

There are porters with very firm opinions about where you’re allowed to stand. Tourists who will absolutely wander through the background of a photograph. Bicycles appearing from nowhere. Beautiful bits of light that last approximately four minutes.

The good news is that I know the city.

I know which streets become impossibly busy on a Saturday afternoon, which cloisters hold the nicest light and when disappearing around the corner for ten minutes will give you far better photographs than spending half an hour trying to manufacture them somewhere else.

If the wedding ends up by the river, even better.

A punt drifting through the background is considerably more Oxford than anything I could arrange for you.

North and West Oxfordshire

Head towards Woodstock, Charlbury, Burford, Chipping Norton and the Wychwoods and Oxford gradually gives way to stone barns, old pubs, manor houses and big stretches of countryside.

This is probably the Oxfordshire I photograph most.

Places such as Rousham, the villages around Charlbury and the countryside running towards the Cotswolds give weddings a completely different feel to the city.

There’s more space. More sky. More room for people to disappear outside with a drink and forget there’s a photographer anywhere near them.

And Cotswold stone does particularly lovely things when the evening light hits it.

The only complication is usually logistics.

Getting ready might be half a mile from the ceremony. The reception could be down a gravel track. Phone signal may become an abstract concept.

None of that is a problem. It just means we build the photography around the actual wedding rather than pretending everything happens neatly in one place.

South Oxfordshire, Henley and the Thames

Head south and east from Oxford and things change again.

Around Henley, Wallingford and the Thames villages there are riverside gardens, country houses, village churches, pubs and marquees tucked into fields that feel completely removed from Oxford despite being half an hour away.

I love photographing weddings around here because the landscape becomes part of the pictures without needing to make a production out of it.

You don’t need twenty minutes of elaborate posing beside the river.

Sometimes it’s enough to walk back from the bar while the light is good.

Marquee weddings also have a particular kind of energy. Everyone spills outside, children disappear into fields, somebody inevitably removes their shoes far earlier than expected and by the evening the dance floor tends to become fairly enthusiastic.

The weather, obviously, remains British.

I always work out the wet-weather option before the wedding rather than discovering it when 100 people are already standing underneath a gazebo.

Weddings in the Cotswolds

Although Oxfordshire is home, the Cotswolds are very much part of my patch.

I regularly travel through Burford and out towards Stow-on-the-Wold, Chipping Campden, Moreton-in-Marsh and the surrounding Gloucestershire countryside.

If you’re getting married in a barn, manor house, private estate or slightly ridiculous old country house somewhere in the Cotswolds, chances are it’s well within reach.

And no, I don’t charge you according to how many sheep I pass on the way there.

Do you travel outside Oxfordshire?

Absolutely.

I regularly photograph weddings across Gloucestershire, Buckinghamshire, Warwickshire and further afield, as well as London and the south of England.

For weddings further away, travel is straightforward to arrange.

If it makes sense, I’ll stay nearby the night before rather than gambling your wedding photographs on the M25 behaving itself at 7am.

You can see the main collections and pricing on my investment page, or simply send me your venue and date and I’ll tell you exactly what applies.

A few things that matter more than the postcode

Timings matter more than mileage. A two o’clock ceremony in central Oxford is a completely different photographic proposition to a four o’clock ceremony in a Cotswold barn. Light, travel, guests and the shape of the day all change.

We work around that.

Two or three locations are completely normal. Getting ready at home, marrying in a church and then driving twenty minutes to the reception happens all the time. I simply build the travelling into the coverage rather than treating it as an inconvenience.

Rain isn’t a photography emergency. Particularly with barns and marquees, I’ll already have worked out where we can photograph if the weather turns.

Sometimes the rain even makes things better.

I just won’t make you stand miserably underneath an umbrella for forty minutes to prove it.

Looking for an Oxfordshire wedding photographer?

If your venue isn’t mentioned here, that doesn’t mean I don’t cover it.

There are hundreds of wedding venues, churches, pubs, gardens, colleges and private houses across Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, and listing all of them would make this an extremely long and fairly boring page.

Instead, send me your date and venue.

I’ll tell you whether I’m available, what I’d recommend for the day and exactly what it would cost.

You can also read more about how I photograph weddings on my Oxfordshire wedding photographer page.

Because ultimately, the postcode isn’t the interesting bit.

The people in it are.
