Engagement Shoots

Across Oxford & the Cotswolds.

Engagement shoots and quiet portraits, photographed the same honest way as the wedding itself.

About the shoots

Photographed the same way as a wedding day: relaxed, unposed, and true to how two people actually are together.

Some couples wander through Oxford's streets and archways, others head out into open countryside, walking and talking and paying no attention to the camera.

It's usually about two hours, early or late when the light is kind and the tourists aren't. No mood board, no matching outfits unless you want them. Just a walk with two cameras and a little direction when it's needed. Some couples want less time, some want more. It's £235 an hour, so a two-hour shoot is £470. If you've booked the Documentary Collection and the shoot is in Oxfordshire or the Cotswolds, it's included.

Most couples book one to get used to being photographed before the wedding. By the end, the awkward bit has usually gone, and you have photographs of the two of you that don't involve a timetable.

How it works

We choose a place together. Somewhere you'd actually go: a college you can get into, a stretch of Cotswold lane, the pub garden you always end up in.

We turn up at a sensible time of day. Usually early or late, because midday sun is nobody's friend.

We walk, we talk, and we take photographs while you're busy talking. A little direction when it's needed, mostly leaving things alone.

The gallery follows, and the photographs are yours to use for save-the-dates, invitations, or just looking at.

Before the wedding

An engagement shoot (some people call it a pre-wedding shoot; same thing) is a low-stakes rehearsal for the wedding. You find out how it feels to be photographed, I find out how the two of you like to stand, and nobody is holding a timetable.

It makes the portraits on the day easier, because we've already done the awkward part. It also leaves you with a set of photographs for save-the-dates, a welcome sign, or the mantelpiece.

Every photograph on this page is from a shoot like this: real couples, no scripts, and only as much direction as the light needed.
