The Importance of Personal Connection

Choosing the right wedding photographer is an important decision that can impact how your special day is captured and remembered. You will have a huge variety of options, but my sense is that it's crucial to prioritise a personal connection with your photographer. Allow me to guide you through the process, emphasising the need to meet in person or have a video call. The worst mistake I have seen amongst different couples was entrusting a friend with a camera to photograph their wedding, resulting in disappointing photos lacking the quality, narrative and emotion they had hoped for.

1. Familiarise yourself with different photography styles:

Begin your search by researching wedding photographers in your area or those recognised for their expertise in capturing beautiful moments. Take your time to explore their portfolios, websites, and social media profiles to assess their style, creativity, and ability to tell a compelling story through their work. All of us have different styles (and different approaches on the day, given our style). I prefer to focus on a documentary style of photography. Of course, I will take some organised group pictures, and take the time for the couple portraits, but the most important thing is for you to enjoy your day, and forget about me!

2. Schedule a meeting:

Meeting face-to-face or via video call allows you to gauge the photographer's personality, professionalism, and whether you share a positive connection. This interaction plays a vital role in ensuring that your photographer understands your vision and can effectively capture the essence of your love story. I prioritise meeting people in person when possible, but at a minimum we will have a video-call to talk about your plans and how I might be able to help you remember your perfect day.

3. Discuss Packages and Services:

Once you've established a connection, delve into the practicalities of packages, pricing, and services. Ensure that the photographer's offerings align with your budget and expectations. Seek clarity on coverage, delivery timelines, album options, and any additional services you desire. Open and transparent communication will help you avoid any surprises and ensure a smooth experience. I value transparency and simplicity, and my pricing reflects this. In a nutshell, if you book me, I'll be by your side capturing every beautiful moment: from the anticipation of bridal prep to the dance floor celebrations!

4. Review and Sign Contracts:

Before finalising your decision, carefully review the photographer's contract. Verify that all agreed-upon details, such as the wedding date, venue, and services, are accurately reflected. Familiarise yourself with payment terms, cancellation policies, and copyright agreements. If any doubts or questions arise, address them promptly to avoid misunderstandings. I have a digital system to manage all contracts and invoices. You will be able to do it all online, even from your phone, and you won't have to worry about popping anything in the post.
